I am a sociologist and have a PhD from the University of Helsinki. Currently I work as Academy Research Fellow with a grant from the Research Council of Finland. I joined the Finnish Youth Research Network in 2018 after working at the University of Helsinki and the National Institute for Health and Welfare.
I am also a pioneer in popularising sociological knowledge as the founder and editor-in-chief of the sociological webjournal Ilmiö.
My research interests include sociology of work, sociology of youth, migration studies and ethnographic methods. Further, my expertise covers sociological research on activation and workfare policies and youth unemployment. My current project Logistics at work. Young men moving goods in warehouse and transportation services explores the often invisible work done in the logistics sector. My other project Surviving precarious work conditions: work ethos an worker subjectivity in restaurant work explores young people’s experiences of working in the expanding hospitality sector. I also lead the research project Review of the research on minority young people’s sense of security. Previously I have led the project How Does the Youth Obligation to Apply for Education Work? Examining the Obligation from the Viewpoint of Register Data, Public Employment Services, Educational Institutions and Young People.

At the Finnish Youth Reserach Network I am a member of the executive teams for research activities and coordinate our montly research seminar. Previously I worked as research manager and was responsible for the coordination of our research profile and managed The Annual Youth Barometer and the biannual Youth Living Conditions Study. In 2017-2019, I was the editor-in-chief of the Finnish Journal of Youth Research.
